All the items available in our online shop are bespoke, hand crafted pieces created by the Blind Wood Turner, Christopher Fisher. Every item is unique and one of a kind.
Hi, I’m Christopher Fisher, also known as The Blind Wood Turner
I lost my sight in 2008 over a period of four weeks and am now completely blind. Losing my sight was a massive disability to come to terms with. Despite this, I took up wood turning and am a self-taught woodturner. I refused to give up and through interests such as woodturning I am able to constantly challenge myself and exceed the expectations of what people perceive disabled people are able to do.
In my woodturning I use traditional and modern carbide tools. I own two lathes. A Record Power and an Axminster AH1218VS, my favourite. I use the Record Power to handle longer work between centres but the Axminster lathe has a greater swing, variable speed and a custom foot switch to make it easier to operate.
I am also an Ambassador for Speed of Sight, a charity close to my heart which provides driving experiences for blind and disabled people. As well as valeting the track cars, I make bespoke hand made pens and keyrings for their online shop. Every item you purchase from this website benefits Speed of Sight too.
